1 to 40 Gbps Capture and Transmit
The cards on the low-end, start with line interfaces from 1 Giga-bits-per-second (Gpbs) all the way to 40Gbps at full line rate, but line-speed is only half the story.
Even the most powerful system's today can easily be overloaded when processing 50 million packets per second or 100,000 TCP flows per second. That is why all Napatech adapters off load I/O and CPU intensive operations on to its own on-board CPUs and FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Arrays) to perform these CPU intensive tasks onboard the adapter.

Hardware Features
- Packet decoding in hardware
- Frame analysis for errors (run-frames, IFG errors)
- Checksum calculation offloading (data link, network and transport layers)
- Hardware filtering of packets
- Multi-CPU support in threaded applications
- Hashcode generation on per packet basis
- Up to 2ns timestamp accuracy
- Timestamp synchronization between multiple adapters using external NTTSU unit
- Zero-copy - packets bypass the kernel and are written directly to user host-buffers by the capture card
- Soft slicing truncates packets based on hardware filters

Transmit Capabilities
- Full line rate transmit on all ports
- Simultaneous capture and transmit on the adapter
- Supports line rate in-line applications
- Latency control
Besides the world-class performance and features supporting reception and capture, Napatech Network Adapters have equally powerful transmit functionality that handles full line rate traffic at all frame sizes with no packet loss, far better than normal network adapters.
Napatech in-line adapters can receive and transmit on 2 ports on the same card at maximum rate, without involving the host-cpu. This capability combined with hardware filtering, coloring/tagging, and multi-CPU traffic distribution, allows development of truly incredible applications. Applications such as Intrusion Detection (IDS), bridging, proxy and many others all work at incredible performance levels.
Napatech Software Suite
- Smooth migration
- Common driver interfce for all products
- Linux, FreeBSD and Windows support
- Napatech Programming Language
- PCAP support (libpcap and WinPcap)
- Java support (using JavaTech NT software included)
The Napatech Software Suite provides a high-performance interface optimized for speed. It supports the full range of Napatech Network Adapter features via Napatech Linux, FreeBSD and Windows drivers.
Some of the advanced functionality of the Napatech Network Adapters such as Extended Descriptors with packet header offset, hash keys etc. are not accessible through "PCAP" API. For in-line applications the Napatech Software Suite API is also the optimal choice.

Available Adapters
There are two types of cards available, in-line and capture cards. Although both types of cards are based on the same hardware, they do differ in feature-sets. The main difference being that "capture" cards can only capture and not transmit, while "in-line" cards can do both. The price is the same for both types of cards.
